Clifford Laggren, Chief engineer of GreenPower Bus, agreed that building one of the world’s first electric buses was going to be a challenge. “Replace the wings with wheels,” Clifford says “and from a systems stand point its pretty much the same thing, a rolling fighter jet.”

Clifford worked in a variety of senior, lead and principle roles at Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, two of the world’s largest defense companies.

He worked at Lockheed for 14+ years, working his way up from Systems Engineer to Principal Engineer and Engineering Program Manager. Here, he led teams who designed classified aircraft upgrades/modifications for both the USA and foreign governments. These teams modified, installed and flight tested military equipment and in some cases, he flew with military crews who performed missions of national importance.

After Lockheed, Clifford worked at Northrop Grumman for 10 years. During this time he was an Advanced Systems Engineer who supported several projects.

“I am most proud of my time at Northrop Grumman where the USN accepted my design concept and resultant development of a new cockpit for the USN E-2D aircraft.” Clifford stated. “This cockpit brought the crew out of the steam gauge era and into the 21st century, improving both their survivability and mission effectiveness while reducing crew workload and improving aircraft availability.”

On applying his experiences to GreenPower’s electric bus, Clifford tells us, “The safety of transporting passengers within North American cities, is just as challenging and as essential as our country’s military jets. What we are building at GreenPower is important. This electric bus directly affects all of our lives by promoting and sustaining a greener world. Our decisions and the products we produce will change the future and the way the world looks at our environment and that is what makes this a unique opportunity.”
